About Me
Hi, I'm Steve. I design computer systems for a living but I also have a degree in geology. My life-long interest in the geology really started with my boyhood love of dinosaurs and, bizarrely for a child, semi-precious minerals.
I was a terrible fossil hunter during my degree days: We visited dozens of classic fossil localities and I can't remember finding anything that wasn't completely obvious. My fossil collecting, such as it was, went on hold when I finished my degree, but I eventually returned to it when I discovered some local geology groups in Kent. It was the Kent Geology Group that introduced me to Beltinge, and our fossil hunt leader was Les Lanham. It was Les who taught me the knack of finding fossils. Thanks, Les. I've since passed that knack onto my family....somewhat too well in my youngest son's case, as he regularly gets the best finds of the day! We visit Beltinge several times a year, usually on very low tides. It never seems to get boring. |
About This Website
I decided to create this site as a challenge to myself: To learn about the geology of Beltinge and how to identify the fossils; To learn how to design and write a website; To learn how to set-up a web server and host my own website for free; To find out how to do macro photography; and to, hopefully, inform and entertain people.
So the challenge continues.
So the challenge continues.
