Weather: Sunny & windy
Finds:89 & 68
I went back to the area just west of the 'Rand' again for these 2 visits. As before there were plenty of families trying to keep the kids entertained with fossil hunting and making a success of it. The children seemed very engaged with it (as were the adults ;)).
The stiff wind on the first day made concentration quite tough, that and the glare from the sun made finding stuff a challenge. The second day was more helpful but, for some reason, the teeth were more difficult to come by.
My best find of the two days was Squalus minor (Dogfish) tooth. Hard to spot usually, but I spotted for what it was as soon I saw it. However, the logical side of my brain said "Nah, it's a bit of flint". After a brief internal debate along these lines, I picked it up anyway. I'm glad I did because it's the first one I've found, even with sieving.
Finds (157): S.striata x 103 (8 complete), G.heinzelini x 44 (6 complete), P.rutoti x 3, S.teretidens x 2 (2 complete), S.minor x 1, ray bar x 1, fish teeth x 1, bone x 1, wood x 1 (though it was bone)
