Weather: Sunny spells, mild
Finds: 134
I had some holiday to use up, so I decided to take the Monday off to coincide with the low tide. Unfortunately, it took me a while to get out of the house and then I got caught up in the 7.30 commuter traffic. Oh, and I started in a rubbish spot.
So the number of finds were down a bit.
Now regular readers of this blog might be forgiven for thinking I'm hung up on finding as many fossils as possible. In fact, I'd settle for getting a couple of dozen finds if they included some rarities like a nice specimen of a Notidanodon, a full eagle ray pallet, a croc tooth and so on.
The only reason I include numbers is so that people get some idea of what you can find with some knowledge and effort, as well as the relative numbers of species.
Even from this day's haul it's clear the S.macrota and C.hopei dominate, but P.rutoti also feature well (10%). Eagle ray bars and rabbit fish partials also come up on many visits. The most frustrating fossils (for me) are Otodus. Complete teeth are rare but partials (bits really) are all too common. Giving you a glimpse of what might have been.
Finds: S.macrota x86 (5 complete); C.hopei x26; P.rutoti x12 (2 complete); Eagle ray bars x4; Rabbit fish mouthparts x2; S.teretidens x2 (Complete); Otodus partial x1; Turtle carapace x1.
