Weather: Bright and mild. Bit windy
Total Finds: 99
On the 11th, I decided to go to my back-up site (See last post) even though most people seemed to be going to the regular place (About a dozen). As it turned out, they were struggling to find much although a few decent finds turned up.
I wasn't finding masses of stuff myself (45 fossils on this day) but I was happy - I would have found far less if I'd joined the crowd.
On the 13th, I initially went to take a look where the others were. As expected, there wasn't much going on. Very little workable exposure and most of the activity concerned digging and sieving. In the end, I returned to the back-up site and found a further 45 fossils plus another 10 through sieving (Photos to follow).
About the digging that was going on: I have no problem with people collecting and sieving material banked up against boulders (it's already been eroded out of the fossil beds), but I don't like people digging out holes elsewhere. It destroys the beds in that position, so that no-one else will ever find fossils there again. I'm told someone actually dug out a hole the size of a bath! So selfish.
Anyway, my finds included 2 fish teeth, a large chunk of Rabbit Fish mouthpart, and only my second ever Squatina Prima tooth (an angelshark).
Finds: 74x S. striata; 10x G. heinzelini; 8x P. rutoti; 1x S. teretidens; 1x S. prima; 2x Rabbit fish mouthparts; 2x fish teeth; 1x wood section.
