Crystal Palace Park is famous for it's Victorian dinosaur sculptures. They have survived over a hundred years and austerity cuts, but now vandals have them in their sights.

Found at Sandown, Isle of Wight : The news
Low Tide: 0.7m @ 8:57am
Weather: Sunny and warm Finds: 89 This was my first chance to hit the beach since the lockdown was relaxed. It was a very pleasant day with a mirror smooth sea. Most of the people down on the sands were tourists, some of whom were clearly looking for shark teeth. I gave a few some hints and tips, and they immediately started finding stuff. Once again I was in the area just east of the 'Rand' where the slabs of rock are at their most numerous. The finds were patchy - Some spots were good and others seemed to have nothing. Basically I concentrated on the former and moved on quickly from the latter. The brightness of the sun was a bit of an issue as the glare from the wet pebbles and pools of water made it difficult to focus, so I resorted to using my own shadow. This limited my field of view but worked quite well all the same. I did some sieving and this added another 18 teeth including a Paraorthachodus eocaenus partial. Best find of the day was a small but perfectly formed P.rutoti (Hopefully I'll be able to include a photo in the next few days). Finds (89): S.striata x 56 (3 complete), G.heinzelini x 18 (1 complete), P.rutoti x 5 (1 complete), S.teretidens x 2 (Both complete), O.winkleri x 1, Otodus x 1, ray bar x 1, chimera mouthparts x 2, P.eocaenus x 1, bone fragment x 1. |
